Began his research career as a PhD student and has been studying the use of alternative fuels for over 10 years. Currently he is working at the Istituto Motori, investigating the application of alcohols and gaseous fuels in spark ignition engines, as well as developing automotive type components such as high energy ignition systems. Other interests include quasi-dimensional simulation of internal combustion engines, investigation of knock and pre-ignition events, along with overall optimization of energy systems.
Thomas Lagö is presently Chairman and Chief Scientist of the company Qirra Sound Technologies Europe AB. He has more than 40 years of industrial experience, holding several executive and sales-marketing positions in international companies, including Hewlett-Packard (now Agilent Technologies). Lagö has held multiple post-doctorate degrees (adjunct professor) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Physics. He is the author of more than 300 scientific papers and holds more than 25 patents/patent applications and has been involved in many industrial R&D projects, often in collaboration with universities. Lagö has been involved in several scientific committees including IMAC1, SAE2, ICSV3, SVIB4 et.al. He has been a Director for IIAV, International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration but also a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), SEM (Society for Experimental Mechanics), IIAV (International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration) and ASA (Acoustical Society of America) and is involved in multiple standardization groups. Lagö received an award in 1999 for the successful work of involving Blekinge Institute of Technology in collaborative research projects together with industry and given a 10 million dollar funding. The award was given by the Blekinge county industry group. Lagö was also awarded the “Best Poster Paper Award,” at the 16th Symposium on Vehicle Dynamics held at the International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics, held in Pretoria, South Africa, September 1999.
